Counseling for Children

Ages 5-10

Has your child been struggling at school?

Does your child often have difficulty expressing their emotions?

Has the family system broken down because of your child’s behaviors?

Managing emotions and experiencing joy through therapy with Joyworks Counseling, Edmonds, WA, child therapist, counselor, play therapy

Emotions are BIG, strong, and often tough.

I am here to support your child in processing their emotions. Through counseling, your child will gain CONFIDENCE to do this independently at home and/or school, which will lead to EMPOWERMENT.

How Child Therapy Works

Free Consultation

I offer a free 15-20 minute consultation with a parent. During this consultation, I ask questions about therapy and we collaboratively create goals for your child’s counseling.

Initial Assessment

The initial assessment is a 60-minute session with just the parent(s) or guardian(s) present. During this session, we will go over the initial intake you completed online and further discuss your hopes and goals for your child’s counseling.

Individual Sessions

I typically meet with clients on a weekly basis. During our weekly sessions, I will be meeting with your child individually. I will utilize play therapy and art therapy to support your child where necessary.

Collaborative Work

It is important that I foster a relationship of trust with your child. Therefore, most of our sessions will be kept private. For change to occur, though, it is often important for parent involvement during sessions. I will typically check-in with parents toward the end of each session.

It is Normal to have Questions!

  • Play is a powerful tool to help children emotionally and socially. Play therapy is insightful as to what a child is experiencing and can give a snapshot of the child’s thinking patterns and understanding. • Parent(s) or guardian(s) will be present for the consultation and the initial assessment. Once the counseling sessions have been started, they will typically be between the child and counselor. I typically check in with the parent at the end of the session and reevaluate goals throughout the counseling process.
